False Start #2

We’re now looking at cows.  I look over at Sarah again.

Before I can speak, she shakes her head vigorously.  “Now you’re just being silly!”

I’m genuinely taken aback.  “WHAT?!  I didn’t even say it yet! How so?”

“You know perfectly well that this particular conversation has basically NOTHING to do with technology.”

“But…”

“OF COURSE there are issues having to do with technology and the self, but THIS is about AUTHORITY and AUTONOMY.”  Her tone of voice betrays an impatient edge, but the look in her eyes bespeaks an unfathomable patience.  She falls silent and begins watching the cows again.

It sighs noisily behind us.

The cows are ruminating with a superior air, as if to underline that I am not yet.

Replies are NOT necessarily posted, but I'll see them.
